A TREE
Stories about trees and humans.
Stories about trees and humans.
man is part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself
- Rachel Carson
They play a crucial role in our ecosystem by interconnecting multiple species, reshaping their surroundings, and the climate as well. They are masters of adaptation and evolution, yet they are widely underestimated in pop-culture.
After all, western culture has always had a big problem in accepting that we, humans and nature, are part of a whole. We are God's chosen creation; nature, including plants, is nothing more than mere resources. This binary thinking is the major lens through which we look at the world, weakening our response to its changes, and blinding us to its complexity.
By contrast, indigenous people see themselves as part of the ecosystem. Animals, trees, forests, rivers... all are our relatives. Indigenous culture is an essential and vital source of knowledge and inspiration from which we westerners must draw.
To survive as a species and thrive in this world we must weave our cultures together, change the lens through which we look at the world, and listen to the voices of our relatives.
My project blends together stories, legends, science, fun-facts, and history to give plants their own voice.
This anthology is an unfolding collection of stories, each of them focusing on one or two plant species at a time, carrying its own tone and visual style.
With your support, some of these stories may bloom into the form of short animated films, branching out across screens worldwide.
For now, they are just small seeds that ask for care and resources to grow.
